Find what you love, and do it

Click to visit www.thechurning.netApologies for the recent radio silence on this site, but I have been focused on writing my second book, The Churning.

As ever, writing can be a difficult and sometimes lonely process. But at the same time it is also a great way to clarify what I know, and add structure to it. As I write I also find I gain new understanding and insights into what I am writing and who I am writing it for.

When I started out, I thought I was going to write a simple book for middle and senior managers, that would give them quick and dirty practical tools for making sense of a changing world, and moving swiftly to enduring action — action that would last in shifting times.

What I realise now is that I am also writing a book that will enable anyone to find what they love, and so to “do great work”. The half of the book on inner leadership, which I thought would be about managing your emotions and the emotions of those around you, is actually also about uncovering what you love, and defining that as a specific, actionable, inspiring vision. The half of the book on outer leadership then gives you the tools you need to achieve that.

You can read more detail on this here.

For myself, I am now starting to write chapter 7 of 14.
